What is Egg Freezing?
Egg freezing involves preserving your eggs until you are ready to use them to start a family. For many people, protecting their future fertility is becoming increasingly important. With increasing female age, the number and quality of eggs decline, which means the chance of having a baby reduces, particularly in their 30s. Freezing your eggs before 35 may give you a better chance of a successful pregnancy later in life.
Essential Egg Freezing is affordable treatment using fast freezing (also called vitrification) to preserve eggs at an age when the quality and quantity offer a better chance of conception in the future.
What is different about Essential Egg Freezing?
Essential Egg Freezing follows the standard process of stimulating ovaries to produce mature eggs, which are then collected, frozen and stored for later use. The only difference is that Essential Egg Freezing offers a much more affordable egg freezing treatment. To proceed with Essential Egg Freezing, we ask that patients meet our eligibility criteria.
Senior Consultant Raj Mathur will oversee Essential Egg Freezing procedures, experienced fertility doctors and consultants will carry out egg collections and our senior fertility nurses will support you throughout your egg freezing journey.

Who is Essential Egg Freezing for?
Essential Egg Freezing is for patients who meet our criteria and want to freeze their eggs so they can use them in the future when they are ready to start a family.
In the UK, egg freezing is not normally available on the NHS unless you are about to undergo medical treatment that may affect your fertility (for example, treatment for cancer).
Am I eligible for Essential Egg Freezing?
In order to proceed with Essential Egg Freezing, we ask patients to meet our criteria which are set to ensure the best possible success rate for you. The key indicators for treatment are age, BMI and ovarian reserve.

Essential Egg Freezing Process
1Check Eligibility Criteria
To begin your Essential Egg Freezing journey, you can check if you are eligible via our website or by calling our New Patient Coordinator team. If you don't know your AMH, we can easily arrange this test for you.
2Initial Investigations, Scans & Counselling*
Egg freezing starts with pre-treatment tests to assess your fertility to make sure that egg freezing is right for you. Tests include measuring your ovarian reserve, which indicates the number of eggs in your ovaries and your likely response to the stimulation needed for egg freezing. If you don't know your AMH, we can easily arrange this test for you.
*If you would like to see a counsellor to discuss any egg freezing implications, we will arrange this for you.
3Consultation with Senior Fertility Nurse
Your senior fertility nurse will take a full medical history and discuss the results of your tests. We will explain your likely chances of future pregnancy so you can make an informed decision.
4Consent
You will complete consent forms that give your consent for us to collect, freeze and store your eggs. Your consent forms detail how long you wish to store your eggs and what should happen to your eggs if something happens to you.
5Ovarian Stimulation
The first stage of egg freezing is ovarian stimulation. This involves using tailored doses of fertility drugs to help you produce mature eggs for freezing.
6Egg Collection
Egg collection takes place in our clinic theatre under ultrasound guidance. For the egg collection, we provide you with a sedative. The eggs are retrieved from the follicles where they have been growing.
7Egg Cryopreservation
Your eggs are cryopreserved in our laboratory using a technique called vitrification, a special fast-freezing method which ensures high survival rates for frozen eggs. Our Essential Egg Freezing package covers storage costs of your eggs for one year.
Risks
As a HFEA-regulated clinic, Manchester Fertility has a duty to highlight any potential risks to patients undergoing fertility treatment. Although fertility treatment such as the ones we provide via Essential Fertility are normally very safe, there are some risks to be aware of, such as:
- Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome: When ovaries overreact to the fertility drugs needed to produce mature eggs.
Patients should consider these risks, and they will be discussed at your consultation. However, in our experience, most patients who decide to proceed with treatment have no (or few) problems with their health.
